Paperclips, beer cans, radiators, pipelines, ventilation duct, cable tray, staircase and step ladder made of iron, copper, lead, zinc, steel and aluminium. Amplifier, megaphone.

The scrap man is a familiar public figure in industrialised societies. Although they operate within the largely invisible economy of waste collection, they are sonically recognisable by their loud, cyclical call for metal. Language, dialect, rhythm and melody give this quasi-universal phenomenon a hyperlocal character.
The installation repurposes the atelier’s conductive infrastructure as an electrical circuit, connecting an amplifier to a megaphone through a chain of copper, iron, steel, zinc and aluminium objects. Stella beer cans, a wink to Leuven’s prime export product, and tinfoil are added to connect the circle. This ensemble plays a looping composition in which the metallic congregation is drummed up both literally and figuratively.
